What it is
Before a clinical placement, your faculty needs proof of immunity to certain diseases, a police check, a child check, first aid and some training modules. Your state’s health department sets the rules. Your faculty sets the list and the deadline.

The blood test
Get your hepatitis B blood test first.
Most placements need proof you are immune to hepatitis B: a blood test showing anti-HBs of 10 or more, not just a record of the vaccine. Immunity from a childhood course can fade. If yours has, boosters and retests take months.

You keep your place while part way through. Most faculties let placements start while a course is under way and documented. NSW calls this temporary compliance. At some faculties it lapses after 6 months. Once 10 or above is on record, NSW treats it as lifelong.
